Postdoctoral Scholar—Meteorology & Atmospheric Science

The Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science at Penn State (University Park, PA) has a vacancy for a Postdoctoral Scholar. The successful candidate will contribute to research projects focused on evaluation of greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes and transport, with an emphasis on methane emissions from oil and gas basins.

The successful candidate will analyze satellite and tower observations and focus on integration of new observations and modeling work into estimates of greenhouse gas sources and sinks using atmospheric inversion methods.  Evaluation of transport uncertainty via consideration of ensembles of models and data assimilation removal experiments and comparison of tower-based results to satellite-derived estimates are potential topics.  Collaboration with students and research scientists spanning multiple universities and federal labs is expected.

To qualify as a Post Doctoral Scholar, the successful candidate should have strong background in one or more of the following areas: carbon cycle science, ensemble modeling and data assimilation, inverse methods, boundary layer meteorology and atmospheric data analyses. The ability to assist Graduate with projects is beneficial.

Requires a Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences or a related field by the time of hire.

This is a postdoctoral position funded for one year from the date of hire with an excellent possibility for renewal.
